Frontier Cowboy Category:
The Shootout is again offering the Frontier Cowboy category for our pards to try out. On the application, you will notice a spot for the Frontier Cowboy category. The category requirements are as follows:

All Classic Cowboy calibers, firearms and clothing rules apply. Propellants must be black powder or approved substitutes only. ANY one handed shooting style is allowed – Duelist, Double Duelist or Gunfighter.

State Shootout:
We will also have the opportunity for "bragging rights" for a seven member team from one State attending the Shootout. We are continuing the "Mule Camp State Challenge" that will work as follows:

We will take the fastest overall times for shooters registered from each State in attendance for the main match for each of these category groups:

1. Traditional/Modern/B-Western
2. One Handed Shooters (Duelist, Double Duelist, Gunfighter, Classic Cowboy/Cowgirl, Ladies Duelist, Senior Duelist)
3. Black Powder Shooters (Frontier Cartridge, Frontiersman, Frontier Cartridge Duelist, Frontier Cowboy, Ladies Frontier Cartridge, Ladies Frontier Cartridge Duelist)
4. Junior Cowboy/Buckaroo/Junior Cowgirl/Buckarette
5. Ladies Traditional/Ladies Modern/Ladies B-Western
6. Senior/Silver Senior/Elder Statesmen/Ladies Senior/Ladies Silver Senior/Grande Dames
7. 49er/Ladies 49er
These seven final match times will be added together for an overall time for each State team in attendance. The shooters comprising the winning team will each receive a free entry to the 2009 Southeastern Regional Shootout at Mule Camp.

Wild Bunch Match:
If that wasn't already enough shooting, SASS has recently compiled requirements for a new Wild Bunch type category featuring 1911 style semi auto handguns. Mule Camp will offer an additional four stage match under this format that will be shot before or after your assigned shooting times on Friday and Saturday (2 stages each day). Please visit the SASS Web Site for the complete list of requirements for this match. The fee for shooting the Wild Bunch Match is also covered within the Combo Side Match fee.

Fans and Water:
Additionally, we will again have fans and coolers of water on every stage to keep our Cowboy and Cowgirl guests refreshed. See we did listen when you visiting shooters told us it got hot in Georgia in May, even though we really know it doesn't get hot until July and August.

RO Classes:
The SASS RO I and II courses will be offered and a Territorial Governors meeting will be held at the event. Check the Mule Camp website periodically to get the latest schedule information and print out a copy of the registration form. We can not accept applications on line, but you will be able to print out the 2008 application, complete it and mail it in. Of course, the Mule Camp application in your January and February Cowboy Chronicle will work too!

SASS UNIVERSITY by Long Hunter:
In addition to everything else, we will be hosting the renewed SASS University shooting instruction school. World Champion Long Hunter will be on hand to provide instruction for new and seasoned shooters. Early pre-registration is recommended for these classes. All registration will be handled through the SASS office so be sure to contact them soon to be sure you get into the classes!

Saturday Night:
Saturday night, we will have a great meal, casino tables and a Western band to entertain for the evening. There will be the usual stretch raffles for quality items you can use in our sport. This is always one of the highlights of the match. Plan to put on your fancy duds or come in your Classic Cowboy or Cowgirl gear, and attend this fun time. Costume Contests will be another part of the event for both "working" and "fancy" costumes. As plans move forward, other activities may also be added to the evening affair. The cost for the Saturday night meal ticket is $25.00. The ticket includes the cost of dinner and entertainment and must be purchased in advance.

SUnday:
Sunday will feature our annual Cowboy Church. Stay up late Saturday night but get up early and attend church. The attendance has grown each year and we look for this one to be the largest yet.

You don't want to miss this quality, fun, challenging and exciting match, so get your applicationsfilled out and sent in early.
